Tadoba Tiger Reserve
The Jewel of Maharashtra’s Wild Heart
Overview
Tadoba Tiger Reserve, officially known as Tadoba-Andhari Tiger Reserve, is one of India’s oldest and most celebrated tiger reserves — renowned for its thriving tiger population and rich biodiversity. Nestled in Chandrapur district, Maharashtra, this iconic wilderness blends dry deciduous forests, teak groves, rocky terrain, and shimmering waterbodies that support a diverse range of wildlife.
About Tadoba
Tadoba is often called the “Land of Tigers” or the “Jewel of Vidarbha” due to its consistently strong tiger sightings and dramatic jungle terrain. The reserve covers a large landscape of core and buffer forests where lush woodland supports a remarkable variety of mammals, birds, reptiles, and butterflies.
The name “Tadoba” comes from a local tribal deity Tadoba (or Taru) revered in the region, while “Andhari” refers to the river that flows through the reserve. The park has been part of India’s Project Tiger network since the 1990s.
